A public holiday, national holiday or legal holiday is a holiday generally established by law and is usually a non-working day during the year. This page contains public holidays sorted by years.   • Sri Lanka is a multi-religious country, here officially observed national holiday for Buddhist, Islam and Hinduism
  • Buddhist believed by close to 70% of population, therefore, majority of public holidays are base on Buddhist culture and beliefs.
  • If employee require to work on national holiday, he or she entitled to compensation not less than 1.5 x normal wages.
  • Labour laws in Sri Lanka are regulated by the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations and this apply to public and private sectors.
