A public holiday, national holiday or legal holiday is a holiday generally established by law and is usually a non-working day during the year. This page contains public holidays sorted by years.   • India is the second largest population in the world.
  • Republic Day, Independence Day and Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday are observed as only three National Public Holidays in India
  • Most of Public Holidays in India is observed strictly on regional based on their religious beliefs, culture, linguistic preferences or events relative to their area.
  • According to India’s Labour Laws, all employee entitled for paid off day for the three national holidays. If employee require to work on National Public Holiday, either compensate with a paid off day or a premium rate for all hours worked on that holiday.
  • State Holiday pay are subjected to the laws in those territories and may impacted by individual employment contracts.
  • Although not enforced as government official public holidays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are usually observed as national holiday.
  • There are numerous festivals and fairs which are also observed as holiday in some state, date may vary base on lunar calendar
